The four keys to doubling your business…

…and the Seven Elements that bring it all to Life…

Building a successful business is not easy, but it helps when you have a template or pattern to follow. In my experience of working with clients all over the world, and in the process of building my own companies I have developed a “blueprint” for success that I’d like to share with you…

There are Four Doors that need to be opened and kept open in order for Money to flow through a business – and you need the Keys to open them, they Keys are called;

  1. External Sales & Marketing – attracting new customers…
  2. Customer Service – keeping the customers you have…
  3. Internal Sales & Marketing – selling more to them…
  4. Efficiency & Productivity – profit and cash flow…

Plenty of companies open 1 or even 2 of these doors to success, but very few open all four…

Even if the owner understands that these areas are important – and in reality, there is nothing new here – when it comes to measuring the performance of the company with regards to each area, very little happens

Most people focus on The Top Line or The Bottom Line and forget all things in between or most importantly – the actual causes of the top and bottom line…

In W Edwards Deming’s seminal book – Out of the Crisis, he published his 14 Point Plan for transforming business effectiveness.

Essentially, what I believe he is saying is, focus on the causes of excellence. Focus on the factors that contribute to the desired result, rather than the result itself – simply looking at the Objective will not deliver excellence.

How can we measure the Four Keys to any business…?

How do we set targets and strategies around managing and improving them…?

That is where using the Sacred Seven Elements comes in…

These Seven Sacred Elements, combine to make a successful business;

When we measure each of these Elements of a business in relation to the Four Key Areas, we have control – the Sales and Profits will be a consequence of our management rather than the focus of it…

For each of the Seven Elements there are measurements in place, that enable us to control the influencing factors of our business and allow us to introduce specific tactics and strategies towards the improvement of each of them.

Linking the Four Keys and Seven Elements…

Once we measure them we can improve them – several of my Clients have specific Key Performance Indicators and Targets in relation to each of the Seven Elements. If I know these are under control, I know that Sales and Profit will look after themselves…

For example – if we set a target of a 5% or 12% improvement in each of the Seven Indicators, the business bottom line will be transformed…

The highlights are that through a marginal 10% improvement in each of the Seven Elements – Sales are Up by 39% and Profits are up by a massive 103%.

Profit has doubled through the achievement of a 10% marginal improvement in each of the Seven Elements of the business…

Note – it may be that in your business we need to change some of the Elements more than others, it may be that some will have to reduce not increase in order for the Doors to be opened and the cash flow to be improved…

The reason they are Grouped under the Four Key Areas is that you can give one of the keys to an individual or Team to Manage and control for you, for example…

Key 1 – Sales & Marketing Team.

Key 2 – Customer Service Team.

Key 3 – Operations Team.

Key 4 – Finance Team.
